Young and Beautiful: The Great Gatsby Soundtrack

Summer is officially here, and what better way to finish up our week of Gatsby here on readthiswatchthisplaythis than with some of the latest film’s music?

Lana Del Rey’s Young and Beautiful serves as the romance theme in Luhrmann’s Gatsby flick, hinted at numerous times as we watch Daisy and Gatsby’s tale unfold.

Gotta say, I don’t know much about Lana Del Rey and wouldn’t consider myself to be a fan per se, but I do really enjoy this song and feel that it fits the themes and tone of the movie perfectly.

Californication: Red Hot Chili Peppers

Without a doubt, my favourite band of all time has got to be the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their blend of bass-driven funk-rock matches Kiedis’ vocals in such a smooth, deep way. And the music video for Californication, one of the band’s most famous songs, took its inspiration from video games – perfect!

The video, released in 1999, features a video game that Chili Pepper fans can only dream of playing. Match that with deep thoughts about the celebrity and state of mind in Hollywood and some funky, moody music… Ahhh. Too good.

I had the honour of seeing the Chili Peppers in Toronto in April 2012 – they’re just as amazing live! Definitely was a dream come true!

Weekend Kickoff: Feel Good Inc.

Ahhh… The weekend is finally here! Now’s the time to kick back, relax, and chill out to the nostalgically sweet sounds of the Gorillaz’s most famous song: Feel Good Inc.

I had the priveledge of seeing the Gorillaz in Toronto on my birthday in 2011 – absolutely brilliant! Their music is so unique and interesting; it’s moody and energetic, all at the same time! They have been one of my favourite bands for several years now. Their music has made many appearances in films over the years, as well. A full list can be found here.
